Rosario Varela
Abstract painting and figurative drawing.

About the artist

Born in 1964 and raised in Argentina, she studied graphic design
at the University of Architecture in Buenos Aires and later at UCLA.
In 1989 she moved to The United States where a transition began towards
the study of fine arts while also delving into photography and furniture making and restoration.
Named "Best Emerging Artist" by Glaad in 2006, today Rosario is collected
by art lovers from Hollywood to Manhattan.

About the work

Organic and gestural in style, Rosario Varela's  paintings are inspired by and established in nature. Beyond the subtlety and ambiguity of her abstract work, lies an organization that stems from her design background as well as her appreciation of architecture.  Her work generates out of a steady search for the enigmatic in a universe where the unexpected is a crucial element. These expressive, mercurial abstractions invite the viewer to step into their subconscious meanings.
Her figurative drawings, often charcoal studies of the nude figure, evoke their humanity and sensuality with a line that is at the same time powerful and delicate.
